Aluminum as a material for CNC parts
The first advantage of aluminum components is immediately obvious: aluminum is an attractive lightweight due to its low density of around 2.6 to 2.8 grams per cm³. In comparison, it has only around 30% of the density of steel and outperforms it as a construction material in this respect. It is obvious that companies operating in the field of lightweight construction in particular can benefit from this material. This applies to the aircraft industry, for example, as well as to the construction of racing cars or engine and gearbox housings.
Aluminum is not only a light metal, but is also characterized by its natural and excellent corrosion resistance. In contact with oxygen, it forms a natural oxide layer, which renews itself when penetrated. Anodizing is the method of choice to further strengthen this self-protection. Aluminum is also extremely strong and resistant to UV radiation, which is why the CNC production of aluminum parts is always in high demand for manufacturers of consumer goods or outdoor art objects. When it comes to surface processing, such as engraving, aluminum is also a pleasure to work with.

As a base material, aluminum is very easy to shape and process, which makes it highly economical and another advantage of this choice of material. When it comes to temperature changes, aluminum remains “pretty cool” in the truest sense of the word; aluminum even compensates for temperatures from -80 to + 150 degrees Celsius. High temperatures are also used when aluminum needs to be hardened.
When it comes to the choice of production method, aluminum is uncomplicated and is suitable for many common CNC processes. Milling is certainly one of the best processing methods. We have modern CNC milling machines with which the most amazing precision work is possible. In some cases, we can get down to the millimetre range and produce quality aluminum components that are a sight to behold. Milling CNC components from aluminum also has the advantage that it is an extremely material-friendly manufacturing process.
Aluminum workpieces can also be machined without major problems. Thanks to its natural, passivating oxide layer caused by contact with oxygen, aluminum rightly has an excellent reputation for its natural corrosion resistance. This is why the material is often the first choice for the manufacture of costume jewelry, for example. Its hygienic surface structure, which is easy to clean, is valued in the healthcare sector and for everyday objects.

Subtractive manufacturing
How the CNC milling machine shapes aluminum
We mill your desired aluminum components as semi-finished tools, preferably on our 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines, to their final shape. CNC processing is one of the most modern methods of metal processing. A contour model is first created using a CAD program. All shapes and tolerances are fixed by an NC program.
After programming, the aluminum part is processed fully automatically by the CNC milling machine. The milling heads used for the cutting process work through the material substance step by step until the desired shape is finally achieved. Thanks to the innovative process, which is carried out purely by computer, a CNC milling machine can be programmed with millimeter precision, while at the same time virtually eliminating human error.
