Briefly explained

What is tube bending?

Pipe bending is a forming process in which pipes and profiles are bent to specific radii in a controlled manner without deforming the cross-section or wall thickness to an unacceptable degree. The process is used wherever media-carrying or load-bearing pipes are required – for example in mechanical engineering, medical technology, automotive engineering or the aviation industry.

At CNC24, you can choose from various processes such as mandrel-free bending, mandrel bending, roll bending and stretch bending – depending on the material, bending radius and series size.

FAQs on bending

Answers to your questions about bending.

What minimum bending radii are possible when bending pipes?

The smallest possible bending radius depends on the pipe diameter, the wall thickness and the material. As a rule of thumb, the bending radius should be at least 1.5 times the tube diameter. At CNC24, we check each inquiry individually for feasibility and recommend the optimum bending geometry.

Which materials can be bent?

We manufacture bent tubes from a variety of materials – including stainless steel, steel, aluminum, copper, brass and titanium. Depending on the material, different bending processes are used to prevent cracking or cross-sectional deformation.

Which bending processes are used at CNC24?

We work with experienced tube bending partners who use different processes depending on the requirements: mandrel bending for tight radii, mandrel-free free-form bending, stretch bending for high precision or roll bending for large-format bends. Our technical experts will select the right process for your requirements.

Can bent tubes also be coated or further processed?

Yes, on request we can also carry out surface finishing such as powder coating, electroplating, anodizing or painting as well as additional processing such as deburring, laser cutting, chamfering or welding. This means you receive ready-to-install components from a single source.

How quickly can I get a quote for bent pipes?

As a rule, you will receive a quote from CNC24 within 48 hours of uploading your drawing and requirements. Our algorithms match your request with suitable tube bending companies – you benefit from high availability and competitive prices.

What is pipe bending?

Pipe bending is a forming process in which pipes are bent to specific radii without cutting or welding. The aim is to produce pipes or structures that fit precisely and are stable without damaging the pipe material.

How does mandrel bending work?

During mandrel bending, a mandrel is inserted into the pipe to prevent the pipe wall from collapsing during bending. This allows tight bending radii to be achieved with high precision and without deforming the pipe cross-section – especially with thin-walled pipes.

What are the advantages of CNC-controlled tube bending?

CNC tube bending enables high repeat accuracy, complex bending geometries and automated series production. This reduces time, costs and errors – ideal for industrial applications with high quality requirements.
